Ramadan 1439/2018

Since the crescent was not sighted anywhere in the world, the First Day of Ramadan will be on Thursday, May 17, 2018 Insha'Allah.

Tarweeh will begin tomorrow Insha'Allah.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Observe Saum (fast) on sighting the crescent and terminate it on sighting it (the new moon), but if the sky is cloudy before you, then complete the number (thirty days) of the month." {Agreed upon}

Allah the Exalted says: "So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the Month, he must observe fasting that month.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Observe Saum (fast) on sighting the crescent and terminate it on sighting it (the new moon), but if the sky is cloudy before you, then complete the number (thirty days) of the month."

The beginning and the ending of the Month depends on the sighting of the crescent. Reliance on the astronomical account in determining the beginning and the ending of the Month is a newly introduced bida’ah (innovation) by the people of misguidance and those who hinder the guidance of the Prophet peace be upon him.

Therefore, since the crescent of Ramadan was not sighted on Tuesday, May 15th, in any country, Wednesday, May 16th, is the completion of the month of Sha’aban and Thursday, May 17th, is the First Day of the Holy Month of Ramadan, may Allah grant it to us all while we are adhering and holding upon His book and the Sunnah of his Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) based upon the understanding of his companions, may Allah be pleased with them.

Thus it is advised not to fast on Wednesday, May 16th, since the fasting person on Wednesday May 16th, is sinning, not rewarded because of the followings; he disobeyed Abu Al-Qasim (peace be upon him) who ordered not to fast the day of doubt, which is the 30th of Sha’aban. Also, because he violated the guidance of his Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and because he relied on beginning the Month on the astrological account, which is a misguidance and a bida’ah (innovation) and a contradiction of the path of believers from the Sahaabah (companions) and those who rightly follow them.
